Introduction

When I appeared for the interview for a writer’s vacancy, they asked me first to explain, how I will start to write a story, a poem, a drama, or a novel means any artistic piece of work, and what is most important in creative writing, How, your reader will reach to the purpose and theme of writing? When I told, them, I will clarify my statement or subject of writing through the Central Idea, they told me to explain Central Idea in brief, and my answer was below.

 1. What is Central Idea?

Ans - Central Idea explains the entire upcoming text, It’s not, only the topic of the text, but it explains the theme, of a present piece of work, let it be a story, drama, or poem. We call the central idea the main idea too. It is mostly stated in one sentence. It’s the unifying element of the story or poem, the whole plot revolves around the central idea. It may be explained as; the dominant part of the related piece of work in connection with the truth of the story/poem.

 2 What is the. The purpose o the central idea?

 Ans -If we perform some artistic work, there must have a hidden purpose, Human beings don’t work without purpose. Like any other creativity with purpose, writing a Central idea has also a purpose.

·         Informative – First purpose of the Central idea is to, bring in prior information about the subject. 

·         To persuade – When the audience is aware of a central idea, their persuasion revolves around the theme, and persuasion becomes easy and interesting,

·         To go through a purposeful goal – When the reader is aware of the central idea of the story or poem it’s easy for them to continue their search for a purposeful goal.

3. How to know about the central idea?

When; we start reading any story, poem, drama, or novel, the first question that comes to mind is, what is the topic or plot around which, this entire subject revolves around. The central idea; is also called the main idea, is a brief overall summary of that what the story is about, mostly central idea is explained in one sentence.

Importance of Central idea –

·         Once, we discuss, the Central idea of some literary topic, we must, know, what is its importance in the story. The theme gets clarified in” Central Idea”. It’s informative and makes the story or poem

·         Interesting reading. -  It brings cohesion to the plot of the story and makes it interesting and knowledgeable to read.

Imagine, if you are writing a story about the “landing of the fighter aircraft Mig 21” and your reader is unaware of what is a fighter aircraft, how; they can understand, what is Mig 21? And what an author is explaining? So, if it would be explained in starting itself, Mig 21 is a fighter aircraft, the reader can easily understand the concept of the landing of Mig 21.

The external conflicts, work like the floor and wall of the story and theme works as electrical wiring throughout the entire house runs and brings brightness to the house. As: we can’t live in a house without light, in the same manner, if without knowledge of the central idea, our story is just a “search in the darkness”.

·         Central Idea must be clear and any statement; should help to know about the question, not about the answer.

·         Central Idea must be specific and use concrete language, in an easy and explanatory manner,

·         It should be in a complete sentence, not be in infinite,

·         Each element of the Central Idea must be connected with each other.

5.How to bring in knowledge, about the central idea?

It’s important to get an idea about the central idea before starting to read the lesson, but sometimes students get confused to know about the central idea of the lesson. They keep on reading to know about how; can try to know about the Central idea or Main idea of the text: -

·          Topic sentence -To know about the central idea or main idea we should read the topic sentence or thesis sentence, which is then supported by smaller sentences.

·          Theme Idea -Suppose, it is written as a topic sentence “Indian Fiction”, the whole lesson will revolve around the history, and present, of Indian Fiction, So the connection between the central idea and story is like head and body.

·         Identifying topic – To identify the topic, we must read thoroughly, continuous and regular reading will bring in knowledge of the Central or main idea. We must read about the History of Indian Fiction to know about it,

·         Try to summarize the lesson – If you need the Central idea of the lesson you must summarize the topic in your own words.

·         Look at the first and last sentence – Commonly, an author keeps the central idea generally in starting or in at the end of the lesson, so; you can get it easily from here.

·         Repletion of ideas -  If you read thoroughly, the paragraph and are unable to clarify the lesson, check the repetitive sentence. Easily we can reach the main idea.

6.How to differentiate between a topic sentence and a thesis –

“A topic sentence is the first sentence of a body paragraph “. It brings a glimpse of the upcoming paragraph.

And the Thesis statement is written to state the main purpose or argument of your writing, it brings glimpses of what the entire essay or story will discuss.

Summary – In short, we can say the central idea is, that together all the elements of the story or fiction, are together. All the other, to tell the story, the central idea can be best described as the genuine plot of the story.
